The Expansion of Music Therapy
Music is something that has always been a large part of my life ever since I was a child. One of the most enjoyable moments in my childhood was when my mom was baking in the kitchen with the music blasting just dancing and having a good time, and I would join her and steal some of the cookies she was baking. Whenever I am upset or going through something listening to music makes me feel better. I decided to pursue this topic because I know how much music affects me, and I wanted to research and see how music can affect people, especially those who suffer from painful illnesses and diseases that are unfortunately terminal or have no cure. I wanted to see if music could affect not only their outlook on life but also improve their health.
Everyone loves music, especially when they hear their favorite song, genre, or artist. If music can help people in addition to modern medicine, then I believe the medical community should expand on it and make it available so most people will be able to access it. Music therapy is a fairly popular topic in the medical community. Despite the massive amount of research done on music therapy, very few hospitals or medical programs use music therapy or have music therapy programs. More hospitals and research programs should use music therapy because there are many known benefits, and it causes no harm when using it with modern medicine. I am not suggesting that music therapy should take over modern medicine if it is genuinely needed. Music therapy could be a beneficial tool, especially for vulnerable patients who do not have many other options. Throughout this website, I will explain why the medical community should expand the use of music therapy to be available to most people.
